Stone Name: Azurite
Origin: India
Azurite, also known as Chessylite after the town Chessy-les-Mines where it was mined in France, is a beautiful, striking, deep blue copper stone.
It is a soft mineral with a porous appearance, and during the Medieval and Renaissance period, it was the primary blue pigment used for painting.
This stone has been noted through the ages for its beautiful colour. In Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Persian Empire, it was highly prized – all of these cultures considered blue to be a sacred colour.
Blue azurite rapidly distinguished itself after its discovery for this reason, and continues to be given much in the way of respect and admiration today.
Such distinctive coloring is nevertheless unique per piece of azurite, and you will find that no two pieces of blue azurite are ever truly alike.
It might be their hue, or maybe their shape or texture, even the energy signature they seem to emit – whatever it is, there’s always something proudly individualistic about this stone.
For all its brilliance though, azurite is considered quite a sensitive stone, and this has led to many people handling it with the utmost care whenever it enters their collection.
